Ceftriaxone + sulbactam falls under the category of drugs known as 'antibiotics' and is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections. Bacterial infections are induced by the growth of harmful bacteria within or on the body. The harmful bacteria synthesize chemicals called toxins, which can destroy tissue and cause you to become ill. Signs of bacterial infection will be different according to the organ infected by the bacteria.

Ceftriaxone + sulbactam is a fixed combination of two drugs: Ceftriaxone and Sulbactam. Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It is bactericidal (kills bacteria). It acts by inhibiting the formation of the cell wall (the outer covering of bacteria, which is vital for its survival) by inhibiting protein synthesis. Sulbactam inhibits beta-lactamase activity. Beta-lactamase is a bacterial enzyme that can break down antibiotics (ceftriaxone).

    Benefits:

    • Ceftriaxone belongs to the cephalosporin antibiotic group, while Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor.
    • Ceftriaxone + sulbactam is of a broad spectrum and acts against gram-positive as well as gram-negative bacteria.
    • It makes the drug useful in several severe bacterial infections such as infections of the blood (septicemia), bones (osteomyelitis), heart valves (endocarditis), membranes that cover the brain (meningitis), acute bacterial otitis media (middle ear infection) and the lining covering the abdomen (peritonitis) and to prevent and treat infections after surgeries.

    Uses:

Ceftriaxone + Sulbactam is for the treatment of bacterial infections. Ceftriaxone is an antibacterial drug. It inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial protective covering, which is crucial for bacterial survival. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor and decreases resistance and increases the action of Ceftriaxone against bacteria.
